I was thinking about Alice a lot today since I have been on the forum for most of it. And I thought about all of the different adaptations of the original book that are out there and how most of them have had some form of success. So, then I thought, what is it about the story or the characters or both that capture the attention and love of so many people?
For me personally, I fell in love with the literal magic of it. I have always been attracted to fantasy stories with mythical creatures and far off lands. I think in a way I always used it to sort of escape reality for a while. And to me, that is sort of what the story embodies. The mundane tasks of daily life often bog us down, but in this story we see a girl who escapes the boring routine to a whole new world full of life, color and adventure.
Of course the eccentric characters also helped to draw me in. I loved the silly banter between the Hatter and March Hare and the "words of wisdom" from the care free caterpillar. The whole concept of these odd ball characters living in one mystical place was also so captivating to me. In a way, it reminds me of a sort of Neverland, where up is down and left is right and you just sort of make it up as you go along.

I would say that the eccentricity of the story's characters and the witty dialogue make Alice's Adventures in Wonderland one of the most memorable books ever written. I really love the conversations Alice has with the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, the frog footman, and the Cheshire Cat.
